Alboin

Alboin, one of the most famous of the barbarian kings that assisted in the disintegration of the Roman Empire. He succeeded his father Alduin as chief of the Longobards or Lombards about 553. He completed the defeat of the Gepidae of Servia and Slavonia, killed Cunimund, their king, and married Rosamund, his daughter. He then pushed on into Italy about 568, and overran the greater part of the northern plains. At Verona in an orgie he produced a cup made out of Cunimund's skull for Rosamund to drink out of. She was so enraged that she induced two of his officers to kill him when asleep, 573.
