Amiot

Amiot, Joseph, a French Jesuit missionary, born in 1718, who went out to China in 1740, and spent over 50 years in Pekin, dying there in 1794. He wrote many instructive works on the language, manners, and arts of the Chinese, including a Life of Confucius.
