Amphipolis

Amphipolis, a town at the month of the river Strymon in Thrace. Originally founded by Athenian colonists, it became one of the frontier towns of Macedonia. It was taken by the Spartans in the Peloponnesian War (422 B.C.), and Philip seized the town in 358 B.C. The modern name is Jeni Keui.
