Ariege
Ariege, L', a department of France on the Spanish frontier. It derives its name from a tributary of the Garonne in which a little gold has been found. The area is 1,890 square miles. Mountains, forests, and lakes abound, and the mineral products include iron, marble, and alabaster. Foix is the chief town.
