Ashbydela Zouch

Ashby-de-la-Zouch, a small market town in Leicestershire, 17 miles W. of Leicester on the Midland Railway. The name is derived from the Norman family of La Zouch. The scene of some of the most important incidents in Ivanhoe is laid here, and the ruins of Ashby Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was immured, stand south of the town. The church of St. Helen is a fine structure and contains interesting monuments. The principal manufacture is leather, but there are iron-smelting works, and factories for nail-making and hosiery.
