Barnfield

Barnfield, Richard, was born about 1574, and educated at Oxford. In 1594 he published The Affectionate Shepherd, and a year later Cynthia, which contained the lines "As it fell upon a day," included also in Shakespeare's Passionate Pilyrim, bearing the same date. Barnfield appears to have reasserted his claim by reprinting the poem, slightly altered, in 1605, under the title Encomion of Lady Pecunia. He probably died soon after.
