Beaune

Beaune, a town in the department of Cote d'Or, France, on the railway from Paris to Lyons, and 23 miles S.W. of Dijon. Though ancient it is well laid out and built, and contains two twelfth century churches as well as the Hospital of Nicolas Rollin founded in 1443. The wine which bears its name is one of the best of the second-class Burgundies, and in the immediate neighbourhood are produced some of the finest growths of Burgundies. Besides enjoying a large trade in wine the town possesses cloth factories, distilleries, and dye works.
