Bhumaputra

Bhumaputra (i.e. sons of the soil, aborigines), the general name of the non-Aryan hill and forest tribes, North-West India. The word is of great antiquity, occurring in the early Rajput records, and particular tribes between the Ganges basin and the Deccan are still called Bhumyas, Bhoimiahs, Bhumijis, Bhumyars, words simply meaning aborigines, and unknown to the tribes themselves.
