Brunne

Brunne, Robert or, a monk, belonged to the order of St. Gilbert of Sempringham, and flourished in the time of Edwards II. and III. His real name was Robert Mannyng, and his monastery was near the site of Bourn, Lincolnshire. He wrote amongst other things a book of moral anecdotes, entitled, Handlynge Synne, and is noted for his deliberate adoption of English instead of French, so that, as he said, the common people might "haf solace and gamen in felauschip when tha sit samen."
