Buchu

Buchu, or Bucku, the Hottentot name, adopted in medicine since 1821, for the leaves of Barosma crenulata, B. crenata, B. serratifolia, and other species, natives of Cape Colony. The genus belongs to the rue family, and takes its name from its heavy rue-like odour, the evergreen gland-dotted leaves containing a volatile oil and a camphor or stearoptene.
