Busby

Busby, Richard, schoolmaster, was born in 1606 at Lutton, Lincolnshire. In 1640 he became head master of Westminster School, and such was his success that at one time no fewer than sixteen bishops sat on the bench who, in his own words, had been "birched with his little rod." Among the names of his pupils are those of Dryden, Locke, Prior, and South. He died in 1695, and was buried in Westminster Abbey, where his effigy still remains.
