Cavan

Cavan, a county of Ireland in the south of Ulster, covers an area of about 750 square miles, 200 of which are under cultivation, the chief crops being potatoes, oats, and flax. Coal and iron are found in the county, and linen is manufactured. The chief rivers are the Annalee, Erne, and Woodford, and the towns Cavan, Cootehill, and Belturbet. Cavan is similarly the name of the county town, which is situated on a tributary of the Annalee. Besides a school, founded by Charles I., it has also a Roman Catholic college.
