Cayley

Cayley, Arthur, mathematician, was born in 1821 at Richmond, Surrey, and graduated as senior wrangler and Smith's prizeman in 1842. After practising at the law, he was in 1863 appointed Sadlerian professor of pure mathematics at Cambridge, and in 1875 fellow of Trinity College. He is a member of the leading scientific societies, and in 1883 was president of the British Association. Among his works is An Elementary Treatise of Elliptic Functions.
