Crown Imperial

Crown Imperial (Fritillaria imperialis), a stately, old-fashioned garden-flower. It is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the lily tribe, with numerous rather narrow leaves on its erect aerial stem, which is crowned by a tuft of leaves from beneath which hang the conspicuous tulip-like flowers. The six free perianth-leaves are a brownish red or a clear yellow, and each has a large white nectariferous gland at its base.
