Ctesias

Ctesias, a Greek physician and historian, born at Cnidus in Caria, was present B.C. 401 at the battle of Cunaxa, where the younger Cyrus was defeated by his brother Artaxerxes. During his stay at the Persian Court he laid the foundation of a valuable work in the Ionic dialect, entitled Persika, being a history of the Assyrian and Persian monarchies. The fragments of this work which have been preserved are, in many instances, at variance with the records of other authors, notably Herodotus and Berosius. He died in Cnidus.
