Darnley

Darnley, Henry Stewart, Lord, husband and cousin of Mary, Queen of Scots, and eldest son of the Earl of Lennox, was born in 1546. His marriage was strongly disapproved both by the Earl of Moray and Queen Elizabeth. His violent temper, dissolute habits, and, above all, his connection with the murderers of Rizzio, soon estranged from him his wife's affections. He met his death by a gunpowder explosion at Kirk of Field, Edinburgh, in 1567, while Mary was attending a masque at Holyrood.
