Denain

Denain, a town in the department of Nord, France, 14 miles east of Douai. It has grown into importance during the last fifty years, owing to the development of coal-mining and of the industries connected therewith. Its position on the Northern Railway and the Scheldt Canal gives it commercial facilities. Here Marshal Villars defeated Prince Eugene in 1712.
