Dendera

Dendera, an Arab village on the left bank of the Nile, 28 miles N. of Thebes, occupies the site of the ancient Tentyra, the centre of the worship of Athor, the Egyptian Aphrodite, whose splendid temple exists in almost perfect preservation. It dates from the early Roman Emperors and contains representations of Cleopatra and Caesarion, her son by Julius Csesar, of Domitian and of Trajan. The building, 220 feet long by 50 feet broad, is enclosed in brick walls 1,000 feet in length.
