Flute Mouths

Flute Mouths (Fistulariidee), an Acanthopterygian family with four genera, allied to the sticklebacks, from the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific. The anterior bones of the skull are produced to form a long tube, which ends in a narrow mouth. Like the Syngnathidee, they are called Pipe-fishes (q.v.).
