Gannister

Gannister, a hard, fine-grained sandstone, occurrihg in the Lower Coal Measure series. It is used for road-metal; or, when ground down, in iron- and brass-ceisting; or, mixed with fire-clay, in making fire-bricks and lining furnaces.
