Gellius

Gellius, Aulus, is known to us only by his curious commonplace-book entitled Nodes Attics.

He must have flourished in the 2nd century A.D., probably from 120 to 180, and appears to have studied in Athens and held subsequently some judicial office in Rome. His work, begun to while away the winter nights in Greece, was continued through many years, and consists of an undigested mass of notes on every conceivable topic, interlarded with extracts from authors, many of whom would be otherwise unknown.
