Glassites

Glassites, a religious sect formed in Scotland about 1728 by John Glass (1695-1773), a Presbyterian minister, who was deposed in consequence of his Testimony of the King of Martyrs coneerniny his Kingdom, in which he asserted that national religious establishments are contrary to the teaching of the New Testament. The adherents of Glass in England and America became known as Sandemanians, from the name of his son-in-law, Robert Sandeman (1718-71), who held that saving faith, though divinely inspired, is identical in its nature with belief in human testimony. Their number is now probably under 2,000. Faraday belonged to this sect.
