Heliogabalus

Heliogabalus, or Elagabalus, Emperor of Rome, was one of the worst who wore the purple. He derived his name from the sun-god Elagabah whose high priest at Emesa he was, but on the death of Caracalla was set up by the soldiers against Macrinus, and upon the defeat of the latter in 218 became emperor. After a reign stained by every kind of cruelty and folly the prtetoriansrose against him and murdered him in 222.
