Hudson Henry

Hudson, Henry, English navigator, born about 1550, made four arctic voyages between 1607 andi 1610, and on the last discovered what after him have been called Hudson Strait and Hudson Bay (q.v.). While returning at the close of the third of these voyages, he was cast adrift, in an open boat by his mutinous crew, and was never again heard' of. While in the service of the Dutch East India-Company he had explored the coast of North America and the river which bears his name (1609).
