Ispahan

Ispahan, or Ispahan, the capital of the province of Iraak Adjemi in Persia, stands on the banks of the Zenderud. The oity is surrounded by groves, orchards, and cultivated fields. The fine buildings and bridges are much decayed, but of late years some have been renewed. It was formerly the capital of Persia, and was the emporium of the Asiatic world. It is the religious centre of Persia, as the chief Imam or High Priest resides here. It is likely to rise to importance again, as the main road from Mohammera to the interior passes it.
