Khedive

Khedive, the French form of a Turkish title, equals "prince," "lord." adopted by the A'iceroy of Egypt in 1867, by Ismail Pasha, after his office-had been made hereditary by his suzerain, the Sultan of Turkey. The title is old, being mentioned by Purchas (1625) in the form Quiteue.
