Kirkstall Abbey

Kirkstall Abbey, a Cistercian house (12th century), 3 miles to the N.W. of Leeds, by whose Corporation the ruins were purchased in 1888. i The site of the abbey was originally at Barnoldswick. It is long and narrow, in the Perpendicular and Transition Norman styles, and is in a good state of preservation.
