Leith

Leith, seaport, municipal and parliamentary borough of Scotland, on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, 2 miles N. of Edinburgh, at the mouth of the Water of Leith, and is 3-1/2 miles from E. to W. It is divided into North and South Leith by the water, which is crossed by seven bridges. There are a few fair buildings, and the harbour works have been extensively carried out, there being now 40 acres of docks, seven graving docks, and two piers. Steam communication with London, the North, the Continent, and New York, gives rise to it large export and import trade. The industries are ship-building, sugar-refining, brewing, distilling, etc.
