Lespinasse

Lespinasse, Claire Francoise, writer of some famous love-letters, was born about 1731 at Lyons. She died at Paris in 1776. While companion to Madame du Deffand she became attached to D'Alembert. The salon which she afterwards formed was brilliant in the extreme. She fell in love with the Marquis de Moira and M. de Guibert, her letters to whom were first published in 1809.

More unpublished letters addressed to Condorcet appeared in 1887.
