Lick Observatory

Lick Observatory, The, was built at the expense of James Lick, an American millionaire, who died in 1876 and is buried in a vault underneath the pier that supports the great telescope. It is situated on one of the peaks of Mount Hamilton, 26 miles E. of San Jose, California, and belongs to the university of that state. The telescope has the largest object-glass in the world, and can be used as a camera to photograph the stars.
