Logon

Logon, a large Negro nation of Central Sudan, whose territory lies about 40 miles S.E. of Lake Chad, between Bornu in the north and Musgu in the south; are akin to the Makaris of Bornu, but of darker colour and generally of more pronounced Negro features. They are fishers, agriculturists raising fine crops of cotton, tobacco, indigo, and sorghum, and are specially skilled in straw-plaiting - their mats, baskets, hanging doors, and other plaited objects being highly prized throughout Sudan. They have an organised system of government under a Miarai ("king"), who is tributary to the Sultan of Bornu, and who is required to consult a council of five dignitaries in all affairs of importance.
