Lombard

Lombard, Peter (circa 1100-60), a mediaeval schoolman, born near Novara and educated at Bologna. He went to France under the patronage of Bernard of Clairvaux, and was appointed professor of theology at Paris, becoming in 1159 Bishop of Paris. He was called "Magister Sententiarum" from his chief work, a collection of opinions from the Fathers on points of doctrine, Which was long a text-book in schools of theology.
