Magar

Magar, a people of the southern slopes of the Himalayas, whose-territory lies between the Marmi /ind Thaksya, Nepal; three main branches: Rana, Thapa and" Alaya with 19, 20, and 29 tribes respectively; practise Hindu rites and speak both

Khas and a Tibetan dialect. From the resemblance of the name, attempts have been made to affiliate the Magars to the Magyars of Hungary, with whom they have no connection, being of nearly pure Tibetan stock.
