Osiander Andreas

Osiander, Andreas (1495-1552), a Lutheran clergyman, was born near Nuremberg, where he preached and took part in theological controversy against Zwinglius. He was present at the Diet of Augsburg in 1530, and was appointed 'professor of theology in the university of Konigsberg by Duke Albert of Prussia. In 1549 he engaged in a dispute with Martin Chemnitz and others as to justification, and afterwards opposed Melancthon. The controversy ended in the defeat of his party after his death.
