Packard

Packard, Alpheus Spring, was born in Maine, U.S.A., in 1839. Having graduated at Bowdoin College, he became assistant to the great naturalist Agassiz, and was employed in various scientific expeditions. From 1874 to 1879 he held the post of state naturalist in Massachusetts, and was next elected to the chair of natural history in Brown University. Besides popular works and contributions to scientific periodicals, he has published treatises on The Structure of the Ovipositors of Insects, The Development and Structure of Linulus Polyphemus, The Cove Fauna of North America and The Labrador Coast.
