Palanquin

Palanquin, a covered litter (used in India and other Eastern countries) with poles fitted to it before and behind, so that it is borne on the shoulders of two, four, or six bearers. It is generally constructed to hold one, being a box about eight feet long and half as wide and high, with shutters like light Florentine shutters. The Japanese palanquin or norimond has one pole fixed along the top.
