Phaethon

Phaethon (" the shining one"), originally identical with Helios the sun-god, but in the later mythology of Greece the presumptuous son of Helios, who induced his father to allow him to guide his chariot over the sky. The result was that the horses broke loose, and the earth would have been set ablaze if Zeus had not slain Phaethon with his thunderbolt.
