Pocock

Pocock, Edward, D.D. (1604-91), Orientalist, was born at Oxford and died there. After graduating at its university, he took holy orders, and in 1648 became professor of Hebrew. As an Arabic scholar he had no equal in England, and his Specimen Historice Aratum (1649) is a monument of learning. He published other erudite works, his Biblical writings appearing in two folio volumes in 1740.
