Sagasta

Sagasta, Praxedo Mateo (b. 1827), Spanish statesmen, born at Torrecilla, entered the Constituent Assembly or Cortes at Madrid in 1854. His strenuous opposition to Queen Isabella obliged him to leave Spain twice, but on her flight he became a minister. He is leader of the Liberal party, and formed a Government in November, 1885. Resigning in 1890, he became Premier again in December, 1892, and once more from 1897-9.
