Salic Law

Salic Law was the code which governed the Salian Franks, who founded the Frankish kingdom. In a stricter sense it is applied to the custom which makes a female ineligible to reign or hand on a right to the crown. fhis law obtained in France from the time of the Frankish Clovis to the end of the monarchy, aud was used to bar the claim of Edward III. to the French Crown. A similar law is in force in most German states, and therefore Queen Victoria did not succeed to Hanover.
