Schleiermacher

Schleiermacher, FRIEDRICH ERNST DANIEL, was born in 1768. He spent some years as a tutor and as a preacher in Berlin, working out meanwhile a religious and phi1osophical system of his own, which he revealed first in his Reden uber die Religion (1799) and Monologue (1803). Meanwhile he was engaged upon his famous translation or Plato. In 1804 he was appointed theological professor at Halle, returning to Berlin in the same capacity in 1810. He died in 1834.
