Sherlock

Sherlock, WILLIAM (1641-1707), divine and controverslal writer, became Master of the Temple m 1684, and Dean of St. Paul's in 1691. His Practical Treatise concerning Death (1689) was at one time very popular. His son, THOMAS SHERLOCK (1678-1761), succeeded him as Master of the Temple, and after various preferments was made Bishop of London in 1738. He published treatises against Bishop Hoadley and the deists Collins and Woolston, also four volumes of Sermons.
