St Christopher

St. Christopher, or ST. KITTS, a West Indian island belonging to the Windward or North Caribbean group, which has been held by England, though not continuously, smce 1713. It is 45 miles N.W. of Guadaloupe, and has an area of 68 square miles. It is traversed by a mountain range, which attains a height of 4,100 feet. The chief products are sugar, molasses, rum, and salt. Basseterre (q.v.) is the capital.
