Stingray

Sting-ray, any Ray of the family Trygonidae, in which the tail bears a long barbed spine, representing the dorsal fin, and capable of inflicting a severe wound, difficult to heal, owing to the mucous secretion from the skin. There are several species, one of which (T. pastinaoa), the Fire-flare, is British.
