Urbino

Urbino (Class. Urbinum Hortense), the city of Central Italy, formerly the capital of a duchy, and now the chief town of the province of Urbino Pesaro, is situated 20 miles S.W. of Pesaro. It is the seat of an archbishopric, and contains a ducal palace, cathedral, and seminary. Raphael was born here in 1483. It is a centre of local trade, and has a factory for the production of pins.
