Yellow Fever

Yellow Fever, an infectious fever which prevails in some parts of the tropics, particularly in the West Indian Islands. The latent period is usually about 6 to 10 days; there is then a sudden rise in temperature with febrile symptoms, epigastric tenderness, and vomiting; after a day or two the last-named symptoms become more marked, jaundice being present, and the vomit often begins to contain blood (black vomit). Typhoid symptoms may then supervene, and in severe cases delirium, coma, and convulsions occur. The mortality in this disease is very high, and death usually results after the lapse of three or four days.
